Pole Position in Time Attack 1 Class
In totally unfamiliar surroundings to those experienced in many previous years of successful racing, Champion Porsche today secured pole position for this weekend’s ascent of America’s Mountain.
Completely new to this unique and challenging event, the team have been focussing on every aspect relating to their race to the clouds. At every practice session on Tuesday and Wednesday the intricacies of this event were becoming ever clearer and providing the team with the knowledge they needed to help our driver, Romain Dumas, now an established veteran of Pikes Peak, secure the quickest time.
The Champion Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport has been performing well, but just to make the focus a little more intense, yesterday the weather threw another challenge. In adverse wet conditions the Michelin tyres worked perfectly and with Romain behind the wheel three runs were made up the Lower Section of the mountain.
Our closest competitor in the Time Attack 1 Division was only able to set a quickest time of 04:09.297, but it was no match for the #38 Champion Porsche which set a fastest time of 03:56.164 minutes. This allows the team to start 5th in line this Sunday for the big race.
After his third and final run yesterday Romain commented, “We had a really great car in the wet which allowed us to take the pole in our class. We will continue to work to do our best.”
Mitra Maraj, Champion Porsche Dealer Principal, was equally pleased “I am in no doubt of the difficulties facing us this weekend, but I am delighted with all that Romain and the team have accomplished so far this week. Now we focus on putting everything together to ensure we reach the summit of Pikes Peak ahead of our fellow competitors.”
